Unthought Known
The last paragraph gives the perspective.  It's the future calling back - Everyone needs to hear this song.

The text formatting is an attempt to convey the music.  I don't know what else to do.  You have to hear it.

Unthought Known

All the thoughts you never see
You are always thinking
Brain is wide, the brain is deep
Oh, are you sinking?

Feel the path of every day
Which road you taking?
Breathing hard, making hay
Yeah, this is living

Look for love and evidence
That you're worth keeping
Swallowed whole in negatives
It's so sad and sickening

Feel the air up above
Oh, a pool of blue sky
Fill the air up with love
All black with starlight

Feel the sky blanket you, with gems and rhinestones
See the path cut by the moon, for you to walk on.

For you to walk on.

Nothing left
Nothing left
Nothing there
Nothing here...
Nothing left
Nothing left
Nothing there
Nothing left...
Nothing left
Nothing left
Nothing there
Nothing here...
******************************
******************************

See the path cut by the moon
For you to walk on
See the waves on distant shores
Awaiting your arrival

Dream the dreams of other men, you'll be no one's rival
Dream the dreams up for us then, you will be no one's rival

You will be no one's rival...

A distant time, a distant space
That's where we're living
A distant time, a distant place

So what ya giving?
What ya giving?

Amazing song on an amazing record. As this song builds throughout so do my goosebumps. Ed's lyrics as always are unmatched by anyone I have heard. Backspacer is a masterpiece.................according to my ears anyway.

I have to agree. While I miss the guitars, the music isn't lacking, and lyrically we have something I thought we'd never get again - No Code.

When Yield came out followed by Binaural and the remarks about this being a songwriters band, I was erm... devastated because I realized we would never get another No Code. At the time I thought No Code was his lyrical masterpiece.

Not any more!

Every song is outstanding. And I don't get the heaps of ridicule we find directed upon one phrase in The Fixer. WTF? Seriously. That phrase was nothing 'xciting regarding bad lyrics. Sometimes I wonder if people realize the general poor quality that's out there. Even what gifted people produce as lyrics is nothing like Vedder's work. And when it isn't mediocre or ordinary (sorry Bruce), it's usually not very musical (sorry Oberest and all the true poets working in music).

But this man's gift seems extreme and it is not limited to words. The melodies on this album are beautiful.

The other day on RM, I wrote that I believed Vedder was a Great poet, a good lyricist, and a Great musician. But I had forgotten. I had forgotten what it was like to have an album with no one else's words on it (Mankind does not count!) and him handling all the melody without having to worry about the egos of others. The last album like that was No Code. The first was Vitalogy. I could be totally wrong about what happened here but it *seems* like he felt free to rework all the music so that it fit a vision.

Nothing else could to explain why Amongst the Waves has melodic references to Unthought Known. Or why Force Of Nature makes one think of Jeremy when Ament did not write the music. I could be in the totally off the playing field but it seems the largest connecting factor in any of it is Vedder.

So I was wrong. Great poet, Great lyricist and Great musician.

ps I think I wrote too much on RM without explaining my thoughts. I may be weird but my thoughts have a rational foundation. I'm afraid to do a search. LOL
