Yep, I learned that the hard way when I started mine, too. It's kinda user friendly. ;)

oh, it's so user friendly. generally speaking, i don't mind complex software. it's usually more powerful. but i DO HATE losing what i've written.

it breaks the heart, crushes the spirit and is all around majorly sucky.

i must compliment you on the arm porn. it just really works for me.

I know. I love that icon. I'm glad it's on loan to me. ;) I'm so happy to have 100 icons now, most of which are Daniel, too. *g*

Have you tried to use a lj cut or upload pics yet?
alessiana From: alessiana Date: September 3rd, 2005 06:34 am (UTC) (Link)
if i hadn't used lj cut, the ramblings below would be much longer.

I hate the Rich Text option, frankly. It's almost impossible to go back and edit because all the coding is all right there in front of your face, and that makes it hard to find the TEXT to change. So I stick to simple text and do the basic coding myself. It's easier that way.

Re: slapping face

Yes, girl! But you aren't posting! At least that I can see - you stopped posting open entries a while back, so I was waiting to see if you were going to post more: but it didn't occur to me (d'oh!) that you might only be posting the people who friend you! :-)

So, I'll friend you!

Re: slapping face

oh man,... no it's just that well, really i thought NO ONE read and if you spend hours writing that is pretty disheartening.

a couple people were kind enough to make comments but i figured it was crap. at the best i didn't fit in, at the worst i sucked. either way it wasn't good.

i started an account on tagworld recently, not expecting anyone would *ever* read anything i wrote, but since it was a music community i didn't really care.

turns out i've had thousands of hits and a shitload of feedback, and over there, you can see who came by (if they don't have their privacy set). ok, that ended being its own issue because i'm an emotional person and i can develop attachments to people... so, I guess I've not posted there for a number of weeks.

anyway, livejournal can't tell you anything. really, i thought no one cared. i let the account expire to free status and was going to delete it completely.

Re: slapping face

It is a bummer that they don't have hit-counters on LJ, but you'd be surprised about the folks who will stream through. I started out and had only 8 friends, and now it's up to about 47 or so, which is fine for me. Personally, I don't care too deeply about how many people are reading my LJ, since some of the posts are friends-only, others are public, and I'll say what I want to say. And if you show interest back on other's LJs, and comment on their pages, then often, they'll start posting on your pages.

How much traffic and responses you get also depends on what you put up on your "interests" list, and how many, etc.

Mostly, it just takes some time.

Re: slapping face

for me, nothing is private but email. i started the internet on BBSs and genie, moving to aol message boards and usenet, then forums, and now blogs.

i'm used to the openness of it all.

perhaps like some, i'm an exhibitionist and want to be read. since i don't write fiction, my commentary, essays and poetry are the only outlet i have.

i did write on others journals and i suppose people may wonder why i'm whining when people have made comments here, but the lack of remark on the non-stargate creative writings was a show stopper for me. it was akin to writing poetry and getting no response.

i had to stop. poetry would necessarily have been next. it's all i can do to control that process as it is. it would have been impossible to stop, yet totally devastating to do so and have people say nothing.

it hard to take being ignored when you're naked.

but i wasn't being ignored. i just didn't have a clue. i feel stupid now but i couldn't have known.

tagworld is very different. aside from the necessary to such places 'sexual self-advertisements', it's an artistic community but isn't divided into interest areas as it is here. not yet anyway. but it's still relatively small. it's very attractive to writers, visual artists, and musicians.

and i can't take rejection. i can't ask to be friends. i just can't. all my friends on tagworld asked me. it isn't a thing to be proud of. it's fucking stupid. it's neurotic. of course it's neurotic. it couldn't be anything else because i can't be anything by borderline.

for someone who runs around naked, i'm pretty shy. i'm friending you back.

anyway, if you are interested in reading my recent journal, click on the "my real blog" link.

Re: slapping face

LJ is funny: it's okay to ask if you can friend someone - and I've done that, especially when I've found something about their blog that was very appealing (sense of humor, etc) - but it's not necessary to ask. You can just click on the button. Usually what will happen is that if the person notices they'll check out your blog first and then, if they like what they read, they'll friend you back. If they've got a ton of people who've friended them if they're popular, then they might not check out who's friending them.

You can also check out THEIR friends' list, too! I've found some interesting blogs that way. And also, there are a lot of OSers who have blogs on LJ. I like to think that the more interesting ones have friended me, and I've friended them back. Karendreamer has headed me into interesting directions, too. She'll mention someone I don't know, and then I'll check them out. Sometimes I friend, sometimes I don't. Start out with the OSers. Most of them know who you are: so friend away! I'm sure BetaCandy would like it, too: she's a thinker like you are. :-)

go for it!
